Labor

I had my 39 week appointment and Lance decided to take the day off so he could go with me. I was thrilled to have him all day to myself, we could get so much done. At 10:15am we went to the appointment and everything was looking good. She estimated his weight at 6 pounds 8 ounces. That eased my mind a little (Lance was over 10 pounds when he was born, you can imagine why I have been freaked out his whole pregnancy). She checked the cervix and said I was about 1 cm dilated. Of course, that made me a bit bummed since I already wanted to meet him and I have not had any signs of contractions or even Braxton Hicks. I just been pretty uncomfortable to where I cant sit, lay down or stand up or even walk with out being just exhausted and tired of being huge. At least my fit haven't been swelling up so I guess I really shouldn't complain.

Anyways, after the appointment we decided to go do some grocery shopping. I felt like having lasagna for dinner so we went to go buy the necessary items. We also stopped by some friends house to visit for a bit and then headed home. I arranged a few things in the nursery and folded some clothes and then arranged them in the dresser. I get excited doing all these and I love how cute and tiny the clothes are. Not to mention the socks, oh my gosh they are itty bitty!

Hung out with Lance on the couch caught up on some CSI and NCIS Miami. We love the same shows so its always nice to share time and watch our crazy interests together. It was almost dinner time so I decided to get up and start cooking. When I was almost done I felt a bit uncomfortable. I let Lance know and he thought "hey maybe it's Braxton Hicks" hmm.. maybe. Ate dinner, sat back down. Forget the dishes I am tired!! It was almost 10pm and I just wasn't feeling right so I decided to take a hot shower since my back was hurting like a mofo. Well that was relaxing. I told Lance I was just going to try and lay down and go to sleep to get some rest. He decided he would join me. At about 11pm I started feeling weird again. I told Lance, "what if my pain tolerance is really this high and I just can't feel contractions?" He said "no remember the doctor said you would feel them." Okay so we started YouTubing (is that a word?) "what do contractions feel like?" haha we really did! Well, it didn't help out at all. I called labor & delivery and talked to the doctor on call and he told me to take some Benadryl that many first time moms are just really anxious to have the baby that they start thinking they are having contractions when they really aren't. After getting off the phone with him I was bothered. How could he tell me to take Benadryl when you are only allowed to take Tylenol during pregnancy and that's only when you really need it!! Lance decided to just drive up to L&D and worse case they were just going to tell me to go home. Perfect, I was fine with that.

At about 11:30pm, Lance put the bags in the car just in case. On the way there I really started feeling like hey I might be having contractions, but I wasn't sure. As we parked there was another couple that was expecting getting out of there car. Lance tells me "hurry up, lets beat them so they can see you first!!" haha cracking up I was like okay lets go. Waddling my little butt in there we sped in and got to the elevator first. As we walked in the L&D they put in a little room. The nurse took forever to go in and check me. She asked if my bag had broken and I said no that I just wasn't feeling like I normally do. She said she was going to get a little stick to check if it had broken or not. Hey.. guess what?! It had broken probably when I was in the shower!! I had no idea! She checked my cervix and said I was 6 cm dilated already! Yes I freaked out!! I was in labor and I had no idea!! Anxiety attack at its fullest!

Lance called and woke my parents right away to let them know as I wanted my mom to be there with me. The nurses prepared a massive room for me it looked like a hotel stay except with a larger twin bed and hook ups everywhere. They immediately gave me an IV to slow down my contractions since they were too close to each other. I had tested positive for the GBS exam at 32 weeks so baby had to sit a little longer for the medicine to kick through.

The doctor later came in and asked if I wanted to get the epidural. I originally planned on going natural, but with my anxiety I really needed it at that moment. My mom asked me not to as she had given birth to my 2 siblings and I natural. I on the other hand didn't think I could survive. The Anesthesiologist came in and had everyone leave the room. She seriously poked me more 7 times and not once did she insert it right. On the 6th time I asked her to please not even do it because it hurt so bad. She said just one more time. Having scoliosis in this case sucked even more! She said she had to put it in at a curve so it could enter the spine. Ouch!! Well.. she didn't even put it in right the 7th time, but she left it in there. Throughout the night I had contractions on the right side of my body and the left was pretty numb. They had me switch positions on how I was laying to try to even it out and that never helped. I never even pushed the button once to release more of the medicine into my body.

After I was able to finally close my eyes and sleep for a bit I woke up and took some sips of cranberry juice since I couldn't drink a lot. I sat there and watched Ridiculousness until it was time to push. So I had plenty of laughs and stuff which was nice. My brother ended up showing up at the hospital which was super sweet of him. He got there just in time for when the fun stuff began. My mom had brought a video camera, which I did not want on at all during the labor. But during my fever that made the whole hour of pushing seem like an eternity I no longer had any energy to say no to anything. I really needed the baby to be out right that second!!

Thank goodness for midwife's I swear mine was sent from heaven. She was wonderful, she walked me through every step of the way giving me strength to keep doing what I was doing. Lance was awesome, although he was nervous he held my hand, moved my hair out of my face, held a wet cloth and kept them cool on my forehead, he even held my leg for a bit. My mom was wonderful she helped me through it as well with her sweet words and all. She even gave me a leg massage that worked wonders. My dad tried to keep his distance for a bit as I think seeing me in pain hurt him even more. My brother just shouted out "your doing good" haha now that I think about it I had a really great team in there. My love threw in some of his motivational words "you only have to go through this one more time." Now I laugh at his choice of words.

After an hour of pushing the pain finally disappeared and oh boy was it emotional meeting the little guy that hung out with me for 9 months. Life just doesn't get any better than these magical moments.

My little angel was born at 12:42 pm on February 22, 2013 weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces and he was 19 3/4 long. Daddy cut the umbilical cord. And as soon as he was given to me, I could not hold in my tears of happiness. I could not believe what was in my hands, finally I got to meet the life that I held for 9 months. The little being that kicked, shoved, swung at me and even gave me a few kicks in the ribs. God's miracles are beautiful and love at first sight has never been sweeter.

Surrounded by so much has never been sweeter. So glad my honeys parents were able to share this special moment with us from California through FaceTime. Technology has made it all possible!
